Lough Money lies hidden away in rocky countryside near Ballyalton, 4 km directly east of Downpatrick. This fishery is being run as a rainbow trout fishery with takeable rainbow trout stocked on a regular basis throughout the year. Water quality and feeding are excellent in this lough and trout growth rates are very good. There are good sized over wintered trout to be caught. The shores are almost all rocky and firm for wading, but fishing is not allowed in the fenced-off area at the pump house. The water is deeper and there is less weed growth near the east bank. There is also a good stock of pike and perch in the Lough which attracts coarse anglers.
How to get there
From Downpatrick take the B1 towards Ardglass, keeping left at the Downshire Hospital just outside the town towards Ballyalton and Ballyhornan as far as Ballyalton. Just past Ballyalton, fork left off the Ballyhornan Road for 0.8 km to the lough.
Motorists are asked to use the car-park provided and not to block the roads in the area.
