This artificial lake commands a cliff-top situation set in a forest area and overlooking the picturesque Benone Strand. The fishery can be very exposed in inclement weather and anglers should be appropriately dressed. Due to increasing demand in this tourist area, the lake is stocked regularly with up to 2000 rainbow trout, some of which weigh between 1 to 2.5 kg.
How to get there
From Coleraine take the A2 to Downhill, turn left onto Bishops Road and continue for approximately 8 km , turn right at the start of the forest and take the second forest entrance on the left.
From Limavady, take the coastal A2 road for approximately 3.2 km. Fork right onto the B201 at Artikilly then left at the fork 1.6 km further on. Continue straight for a further 5.4 km, turn left at the end of the forest and take the second forest entrance on the left.
