Introduction of Carp to Hillsborough Lake
Introduction of Carp into Hillsborough Lake
After previous consultation with the Public, there was alot of interest in the provision of a Carp Fishery within the Public Angling Estate. The Department examined all the waters within the Estate and found that Hillsborough fitted these requirements.
In September 2009 the Department introduced Carp into Hillsborough Lake, although we will continue to stock the lake with Rainbow Trout.
It will take up to five years to develop the head of carp in the water, to make it a viable fishery and at the same time, the numbers of rainbows being introduced will reduce. The Department have identified an alternative water in the locality to replace Hillsborough as a rainbow fishery and are actively developing this.

We do not expect the service from the Department to the local anglers in the provision of rainbow trout angling to be interrupted.
